Photography Speaks Louder than Words

You’ve got to applaud the patience and determination of Karim Chalebois-Zariffa

Back in 2008 this man decided to take on the project of photographing the entire contents of his life, arranging each item precisely and compiling a 32 page book entitled Index.

Sometimes photography is stronger than words, and you certainly learn a lot about Karim Chalebois-Zariffa by what he owns.

Charles and Ray Eames - Design Icons!

Today I thought I’d do a little blog on Charles and Ray Eames.
Today marks the anniversary of the death of Charles and you may not know, but today is also the anniversary of Ray Eames too.
Ray Eames died on the same day as her husband - exactly 10 years after Charles. This makes me love them even more!
This design-duo were major contributors to modern architecture, furniture, graphics, fine art and film! They were the ultimate all-rounders.
I thought it only appropriate to showcase some of my favourite designs as a kind-of commemorative celebration of these two icons of Design.

Two Times Elliott Postcard Series

Really liking the small promotional piece created by Two Times Elliott.
The company has put together a set of 15 individual postcards, that once combined and arranged numerically spells out the company name.

Each card has been risograph printed in-house on a range of different coloured GFSmith colourplan paper stock.

The idea is to get the project blogged on different sites around the world… and it’s work!

You can purchase a copy of the postcard set here, there’s only a limited series of 70,so best to get your skates on!

What a man carries in his pockets can tell a lot about the person

When creating the annual report for a successful 100 year old company, it’s important to get it right.

So what’s the best way to represent a company?

To highlight the most important part of a successful business, of course - The Employees.

What a man carries in his pockets can tell a lot about the person.

Anthon B Nilsen, a company which deals in property; education and recycling, decided to showcase their staff by photographing their possessions as opposed to their faces.

This way, the reader learns about the staff on a personal level!

I love every aspect of this publication, from the personable level to the paper stock used and foil block print adopted.

Perfect.

RARE Publication - Layout with Attitude

If you like your layout design to have a bit of attitude, then you will love the work of Francesco Franchi and Francesco Muzzi.
Franchi and Muzzi were asked to develop a new cultural section within the redesign of Italian magazine IL.
RARE was the outcome.
The brief was to create a sort of publication inside the magazine.
With its own bold language and provocative subject the visuals had to reflect this attitude.
And reflect they certainly do!
I love the type layout and bold colour palette, combine these two aspects with greatly evocative imagery and the publication is winning on all levels.

Peter Crawley Hand-Stitched Illustrations

Peter Crawley, a product designer who also creates the most beautiful hand-stitched Illustrations, has caught my eye this morning.
The illustrations are produced by hand piercing various stocks of paper with a pin and then stitching the paper with a needle and cotton thread.

The results are beautiful!

His work kind-of takes me back to producing nail-and-string pictures in the 90’s (Peter’s are a tad better though!!)

Bianca Chang Paper Design...

I consider myself a fairly considered designer. I incorporate a mathematical approach to layout and think my work is better for it but one designer who takes the mathematical approach one step further is Bianca Chang!
Bianca Chang, an Australian based designer and paper artist. Her attention to detail and minimal approach to her sculptures are truly beautiful.
Inspired by the subtlety of tone on tone signage and the shadow-play of three-dimensional letterforms, she started working on a series of hand-cut graphic paper sculptures which she has since exhibited and continues to develop through gallery showings and private commissions.

These sculptures are both well considered and visually breath-taking.
Take a look at more of Changs work here, you won’t be disappointed.
